One of the showpieces on the WTA Tour, the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix has enjoyed rapid growth ever since Tracy Austin’s win at the premiere back in 1978. The move to the Porsche Arena in 2006 marked the beginning of a new era the change of surface to clay in 2009 was another step into the future.

As one of the showpieces on the WTA Tour, the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix has enjoyed rapid growth ever since Tracy Austin’s win at the premiere back in 1978. The move to the Porsche Arena in 2006 marked the beginning of a new era the change of surface to clay in 2009 was another step into the future. Spectators at the long-established tournament have been able to watch all the world stars live – from Steffi Graf to Martina Navratilova, from Gabriela Sabatini to Martina Hingis, from Lindsay Davenport to Justine Henin and Serena Williams. One of the many highlights of the players’ favourite tournament was Julia Görges’ surprise win in 2011 in front of a jubilant crowd. She duly became the second German winner after Anke Huber. The tournament winner in 2012, 2013 and 2014 was superstar and Porsche Brand Ambassador Maria Sharapova.
