Markus Günthardt
Markus Günthardt has been the tournament director of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix since 2005. Born in Zürich on 10 September 1957, the Swiss was himself a professional player on the ATP Tour from 1978 to 1985. In this time, he also played for Switzerland in the Davis Cup and was playing captain in 1984 and 1985. A doubles specialist, he celebrated his biggest successes alongside his brother Heinz Günthardt. His career highest doubles ranking was No 40.

Since retiring from his playing career Markus Günthardt, who lives with his wife and two children in Madrid and Switzerland, has remained in the game. Working for Ion Tiriac, he was the tournament director at various tournaments such as the Eurocard Open in Stuttgart and the ATP Tour World Championships in Hanover from 1990. Along with his sports marketing agency Vision Sports & Events, he was involved in Madrid’s bid to stage the 2012 Olympic Games. He was also an advisor for the Turkish Tennis Association with special responsibility for the WTA Championships which were staged in Istanbul from 2011 to 2013. His experience is also sought after worldwide, including the WTA Board of Directors.

As a Premium Partner of the “Deutschen Tennis Bundes” (DTB – German Tennis Association), Porsche has been supporting the country’s best up-and-coming women players within the Porsche Talent Team Germany set-up since 2012. The team members this season are Carina Witthöft, Anna-Lena Friedsam, Antonia Lottner as well as the two new members Katharina Gerlach and Katharina Hobgarski.

It has already become a tradition at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix that the ladies are visited by two gentlemen on the first day of main draw matches. This time around, the Berenberg Classics starting at 6.30 pm on Monday 20 April has brought together Andre Agassi (USA) and Thomas Muster (Austria) for the eagerly-awaited Duel of Legends.
